Halloween - SKANKIFIED

OK, I have a complaint about modern-day Halloween. Well, a couple. One of them is that the world just isn't as safe as it used to be (or at least the perception is that it's less safe), so kids can't go out and trick-or-treat in neighborhoods like they used to.

A couple years ago, I was SO EXCITED at Halloween because it was my first year of owning my OWN house with my OWN front door and I was going to be able to give candy to trick-or-treaters! It was a monumentus milestone that I had reached. Well, I had not ONE trick-or-treater in my neighborhood!

It seems like all of the kids go to a church function or they trick-or-treat at their parents' offices or at a mall or something like that now. That was NOT the case when I was a kid. We got all decked out in our costumes and then my Dad would take us through our neighborhood trick-or-treating to all of our friends and neighbors. It was such a tradition that I remember the exact black hat that Dad always wore each year!

Oh well, times have changed I guess.....

Anyway, the other thing that I want to point out is that in the past it seems that people would dress up in costume and use creativity, current events, etc. to decide on what they would wear.

Here are some examples:

Well, nowdays, it seems that Halloween is solely an excuse for 'regular, everyday' women to dress as skankily as they want (no, I don't think "skankily" is a real word, but I'm using it anyway!).

I think it takes very little creativity and is just kind of annoying. I feel like I'm watching a porn movie walking around. Get some REAL creativity and think up a unique idea for a costume if you want to dress up! Who's with me?!

So totally agree with you. Whatever happened to dressing up like cartoon characters or just a bum with coffee grounds on your face to make it look like a five o'clock shadow.

I was going to post about this very topic this week.

THIS pisses me off to no end. Why is it necessary to throw your goods out on Halloween and act like a hooch? I don't get it. Yes, it's fun to wear makeup and fake eyelashes, but it has gone waaay too far. Do you know how many sets of boobs and underwear I saw last Saturday? More than I should have.

I dressed as a garden gnome and got a TON of compliments! It's fun - and funny! Notice, I was not a SLUTTY gnome. Stupid. This takes creativity and ideas. Any dummy can go to the costume store and get a slutty "fill in the blank profession" costume.

I am also tired of women just acting slutty/cutesy/dumb for attention. Can we actually have real conversations? It IS ok to talk politics and world issues and NOT what that stupid Kardashians are wearing this week or about the newest reality TV show "plot."

Also - does no one notice that kids are picking up on this? WE are setting the standard and also a terrible example.

I am not kidding - a PREGNANT teenager actually came to my house trick or treating. REALLY? I am old school, my parents taught me manners and smarts. This is not ok.

Sure, this happens. But you don't get to trick or treat after it does. Sorry, you need to grow up now.
