The Charleston, SC adventure that Lindsay and I went on included a "nature" stop along the way. Just outside of downtown Charleston is a popular tree called "The Angel Oak." I know, I know -
a tree?? But look at how cool it is!!!

All of this mangled mess is ONE tree! It is 65 feet tall and 25.5 feet around. The area of shade that it provides is 17,000 square feet!

The little visitors center that is near the tree was closed by the time we got out there, so all of my pictures were taken through the holes in a chain link fence. So for perspective, I got this next picture of the Angel Oak off of the internet so you can see a person next to it. INSANE!!

The branches are actually growing back into the ground at different points!

The length of the largest
limb is 89 feet!

The Angel Oak is a Live Oak that is a native species found throughout the Low Country (Coastal Carolina). Believed to be in excess of 1,500 years old, its massive, draping limbs and wide spreading canopy present the aura of an angel.....but the naming of this tree was acquired from the tree's previous owners, Martha & Justin Angel.

I couldn't stop staring at it!

They even have wooden supports to hold parts of it up!

Here's the pretty road that we traveled down to get to the tree. Definitely worth the stop!

People at work laughed at me when I told them that the tree was closed :).
