Waylon, Willie & The Boys

After I drove out of Fredericksburg on my journey southeast to my Mom's, I just HAD to stop by Luckenbach, Texas. It's famous for being a hole-in-the-wall tiny little place where Willie Nelson hangs out (and probably smokes A LOT of pot). Anyway, I digress. It is about 12 miles from Fredericksburg and pretty much on my way as I head to Kingsville. The check-out person at my hotel in Fredericksburg told me how to get there and said that if I get to the bridge on that particular road, that I've gone too far and missed the town. HOW WOULD I MISS AN ENTIRE TOWN??? Wellllllll......I did! I got to the bridge and was dumbfounded as to how you just miss a TOWN! So I turned around and found out that Luckenbach is basically just a sort-of makeshift campground of sorts and you have to drive off the main highway on a gravel road in order to see the dancehall! They weren't kidding - it really is a hole-in-the-wall town!

The town was made famous by Waylon Jennings' song "Luckenbach, Texas" - it's a fabulous little song - check it out on iTunes if you've never heard it. I am pretty sure that the permanent population is about 17 potheads. HAHAHA!
Here are my pics from Luckenbach (mind you, this was at about 6:45am, so I didn't get to see any singin', dancin', drinkin' or pickin'.....I guess I'll have to go back again sometime. That would be AWESOME.
"Everybody's Somebody In Luckenbach"

Here's me VERY TIRED, needing proof that I did in fact go to Luckenbach, Texas!!

Upcoming shows in the big dancehall:

Amazingly enough, Luckenbach has it's own post office right next to the dancehall - weird!

This is the sign on the front of the post office - how's that for 'defacing a federal building'!! haha

This last one is literally ALL of Luckenbach - the post office on the right, the dancehall on the left and the 'feed lot' (or concession area) behind the dancehall. There are a few campsites and a little creek and that's about it! I LOVED IT!!
