I would also like to add their families to this list, since they endure sacrifice by living without their loved ones while they are away on duty.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.
It is the VETERAN who salutes the Flag.

It is the VETERAN who serves under the Flag.

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

I've seen these photos several times before and I have the same thoughts as you do - proud and ashamed at the same time, and I'm really torn between whether this war or whatever we call it is good or bad. I lost my brother-in-law in August 2005 in Iraq and should probably be really ticked off at it but I know that Mike loved what he did and he wouldn't have wanted to do anything else with his life. He knew that it was dangerous stuff but that's what he signed up for. So, every time I get one of these emails, I forward it on to everyone I know in hopes of showing my respect for everything that is done for me and my family and friends every day. God bless.
