Wienerschnitzel!

Before Jenks moved back to North Carolina, he took me to a fantastic German restaurant in Plano. It's in a strip mall type area, so I wasn't expecting authentic-ness.....but I got it! It's called The Bavarian Grill....and here's the welcome sign!

It was August, so we didn't sit in this outdoor patio area, but isn't it cute?!

I didn't know what "Masskrugstemmen" meant, so I had to look it up:

“Masskrugstemmen,” which translates loosely to the lifting of a liter mug of beer, is a well-known and a competitive Bavarian sport. The “Masskrug,” a 1 Liter Stein is held with one arm, completely stretched out and parallel to the floor. The goal is simple: To hold a filled stein as long as possible!

I think I might take up a new hobby now! hahaha This is the area just inside the dining area.....lots of authentic German trinkets on the walls - made me think of my visits to Munich (1999 and 2004).

This is how you say "wine list" in German.....

One of my FAVORITE parts of the outing was this accordion player - he was awesome!

Here's a close-up of said accordion:

He sang songs that everyone knew - like "Roll Out The Barrel" and then a bunch that I didn't know. So fun!

I'm not a beer drinker so I had wine, but here's Jenks' beer stein....

And just to make it more fun, they had a toy train running on a track along the ceiling - all around the restaurant. It would go above doorways, through walls, etc. I loved it!

OK here's the food - I got grilled bratwurst and spaetzel, with some sort of a German potato concoction in that little white dish. VERY yummy.

Here's a picture and description of the Bavarian breads that they brought out before the meals....

Jenks got a sampler platter of all kinds of sausage (insert crude joke here). There were 5 different kinds and then it came with red cabbage and something else. I got to try a little bite of each - very tasty!

Here's the crowd that was next to us.....

Reminded me of being at the Haufbrau Haus in Munich when Jamie and I studied abroad - wonderful memories......

This little guy was hanging from the ceiling in the corner - so cute!

There were several people celebrating birthdays that night, and they did a special little song for the recipients. They bring out this set of bells and one person holds this wood basket and then the player dings the numbered bells according to this instruction sheet. It makes a perfect rendition of Happy Birthday!

Here they are in action!

This was such an awesome little place - I definitely will be there again someday!
